The Rakino Ratepayers Association has set up their own official blog in an effort to control the dissemination of information, here.

You may notice some similarities to this site :). I hope that this is a step towards them becoming more transparent and informing the public of their works and that they report the unvarnished truth. I see no point in attempting to rival them.

The illustrated Rakino News is published 10 times a year. Subscription is otherwise $30 per annum, including postage within New Zealand. Delivery on the island is by arrangement.

Dragon Boat Races

Dragon Boat races are once again occurring in Home Bay on 2nd January. There will be a picnic and registration starts at 10am, the races should start at 11am.

The Dragon Boat events:
  • Children
  • Mixed
  • Men’s
  • Women’s

The Kayak events:
  • Children
  • Mixed
  • Men's
  • Women's

Please bring your picnic, kayaks, life-jackets, beach towels and whatever else you think appropriate.

Labour weekend ferries

Pine Harbour will be operating a public holiday timetable for the Rakino service this coming Labour weekend (25th/26th/27th Oct).

Ferries will depart Pine Harbour for Rakino on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Monday afternoon.
Times are as follows for Saturday 25th October 2008:
  • Depart Pine Harbour 8.30 am, Arrive Matiatia (Waiheke) 8.55 am
  • Depart Maitiatia (Waiheke)9.00 am, Arrive Rakino 9.15 am
  • Depart Rakino 9.20 am, Arrive Matiatia (Waiheke) 9.35 am
  • Depart Matiatia (Waiheke) 9.40 am, Arrive Pine Harbour 10.05 am
The Pine Harbour Monday Evening service will operate at the same times as our usual Sunday evening service (see timetable for more info).

As usual Reuben's Water Taxi will be running its ferries, bookings essential, 0800 111 616.

Labour Weekend 25-27 October

Arts & Crafts fair - Saturday 25th October 11 am - 1 pm at the Hall.


Fishing Competition - 25th-26th October, weigh in 3 pm Sunday. Unfortunately a $10 registration is requested for, 8 am Saturday at the Hall. Fish must be caught within 200m of the Rakino coast.

Rakino Ratepayers Association AGM - Sunday 26th October 4 pm in the Hall followed by a BBQ and fishing prizes at 6 pm. BYO booze.
