Another blog...

The Rakino Ratepayers Association has set up their own official blog in an effort to control the dissemination of information, here.

You may notice some similarities to this site :). I hope that this is a step towards them becoming more transparent and informing the public of their works and that they report the unvarnished truth. I see no point in attempting to rival them.

Pine Harbour

Dear Ferry Patrons

After 5 years of service it is with regret that we will be discontinuing the weekend and public holiday service from Pine Harbour to Waiheke and Rakino effective as of the 1st July 2007.

We wish to thank you for your support of this service over the years and write to inform you that we still offer a ferry charter service which is available to both Waiheke and Rakino or any other destination in the Hauraki gulf at a very reasonable rate, should you or a group of you wish to organise a regular charter to and from Waiheke, Rakino or any other destination we would be very happy to arrange. Please contact our office on 5364720 or email us at ferry@pineharbour.co.nz

Yours sincerely

Let's just hope that the Water Taxi doesn't do the same thing. It is less likely to now so lets hope that they do not increase the fare.

Has anyone approached Pine Harbour to suggest that they run the service Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon only?

Will they restart the service in the summer months?

What can the ratepayers association do to interest another operator in taking over the service?

Can we get the ferry patronage numbers from Pine Harbour to use to promote the run to other operators?

I vote that everyone support the Water Taxi. The reason Pine Harbour quit was that there weren't enough customers for more than one operator in the first place.

Has Pine Harbour quit Waiheke also?

I think its a bad thing if the water taxi ends up with a monopoly on transport to rakino - it means they can charge whatever they like. It is already expensive.

Moira - you have asked a couple of good questions - has anybody asked pine harbour if they will do a summer service or consider only 2 trips a weekend?

Sure a monopoly is never good but now they have more customers they should not need to put the price up. You could always take the helicopter.

Pine Harbour has quit Waiheke also thus I suspect there is no show of them returning except for public holidays.
